about

Kristo Rodzevski's fifth album Fair Weather Friends was created during his one-month residency in Chicago’s West Loop in the midst of the 2020 Covid pandemic. It was an ominous time in a city permeated by social withdrawal and psychic entropy, where people were quickly shifting from anxiety to paradoxical calm and back.

Kristo managed to put together an ensemble of superb musicians who have been defining the modern Chicago sound over the past few decades. The result is a narrative tapestry of delicate arrangements and pointillistic storytelling, with themes primarily inspired by personal loss and disappointment, the defense mechanism of denial of the passage of time, and the concept of Dead Mother in the works of Andre Green and Egon Shiele.

Fair Weather Friends is a nostalgia for a time that never was. A screen memory. A love letter to Chicago.
